What are Pillar Candles?

Pillar candles are candles which are extremely wide, allowing them to be burned for an extended period of time, since they have more wax available to fuel the flame. The defining characteristic of the pillar candle is its width, which separates it from tapers and other, narrower candles. Pillar candles also tend to be fairly tall, and they are most commonly square or round.

What Makes Beeswax Candles So Great?

100% Pure

Beeswax candles do not require chemical processing. Beeswax is one of the densest waxes and has a high melting point. This means that beeswax doesn’t need any hardeners, additives, or chemical treatments to make a quality product. Edinburgh Honey's candle making process is simple and environmentally friendly. First, they source beeswax straight from the hive. Then they melt it down and clean out any particulate- beeswax must be free of impurities to burn properly. Once the beeswax is clarified, it’s ready to be poured. The candles are finished by burnishing each one by hand. That’s it! Edinburgh Honey never add any artificial scents or colouring to their candles because beeswax doesn’t need it.

Bright, Longer Burn

Beeswax candles emit light that is similar to the light spectrum of sunlight. This is thanks to beeswax’s high melting point of approximately 65C. Because beeswax has a higher melting point than other waxes, it emits the brightest, most warm-toned flame. Beeswax candles also last longer than most other candles. Because it is so dense (0.958), it burns slower and drips less, and many consider beeswax candles to be drip free.

Air Purifying

Unlike many other candles, burning beeswax actually purifies the air. Beeswax candles emit negative ions which bind with particulate matter in the air, causing the floating particles in the air to drop to the ground. Some say negative ions also stimulate the pituitary gland, thus increasing creativity, intuition, and dream activity. Because of their air cleansing properties, beeswax candles are a great candle option for people with allergies, asthma, sinuses and sensitivities.

Environmental Impact

By choosing Edinburgh Honey Company candles, you can support your local beekeepers. Beeswax is a natural by-product of the beekeeping industry. It’s made and used by bees to store their honey and raise their broods. After periods of high honey flow, beekeepers remove the extra honeycombs. Edinburgh Honey's beeswax comes from the capping of these honeycombs. Many other candle materials come from industries that harm or deplete the environment. Beeswax is a natural, renewable resource from an industry that helps the environment. Bees play a pivotal role in our lives by pollinating the crops we eat and plants in the wild. Beeswax is just another miracle that comes from these amazing insects.
